CHEDDINGTON is a village and parish in the hundred of Cottesloe, union of Leighton Buzzard, 6 miles S. of Tring, and 36 from London. Here is a station on the London and North Western Railway, from which a branch line runs to Aylesbury. The parish is also intersected by the Grand Junction Canal. The church is a plain structure, in the perpendicular style, dedicated to St. Giles. It consists of nave, chancel, and square tower, with five bells, and a pinnacle at each angle. The ancient pulpit is of carved oak; there is a handsome octagonal decorated font. The living is a rectory, annual value £300, in the deanery of Mursley and patronage of the Earl of Brownlow, who is lord of the manor; the Rev. Lionel Dawson Damer, incumbent. The Baptists and Wesleyans have each a chapel in the village. A National School for boys and girls, and a plaiting School have been established some years. The population in 1861 was 628; acreage 1398.
