1855/Mrs. H. Clarke/../../../Kelly's*

I am descended from Jabez Rankin's brother Eli Rankin. Jabez is listed in 1851, living with James & Mary Ann King at 9 Bradford Street, Braintree. It is believed that he learnt his trade from an Uncle, perhaps James? Jabez is the son of Samuel & Sarah (nee Warren) Rankin who came to Australia with most of their children on the Barque, Isle of Skye, which Sailed from London on  the 27/07/1852 arriving in  Geelong, Victoria, Australia, on the 12/12/1852. Jabez would have been about 20yrs when the rest of the family arrived in Australia. His son Augustus, a Brewer, was still in England in 1881; but travelled to Australia later.

Jabez Rankin's wife Emma is almost certainly Emma Clarke; and he  is listed on FBMD: Q/E March 1903, aged 71 years in District of Braintree, Vol 4a, Page 441.

I would be interested in further communication with anyone else interested in this family. *****

[Augustus, one of Jabez' sons, was in Australia by 1914 as he is on the Electoral Roll of 1914.  Augustus' address was 86 Cecil Street, Williamstown, Victoria.  His occupation was "Labourer". A descendant beleives Augustus worked for the Victorian Railways.    Also Frederick RANKIN was at the Kings Head, Bradford St, Bocking from 1890 to 1899.    Frederick was Jabez' son as well. ] *****
