The Kellys directory 1906 lists my Great Grandfather Pryce Herbert Owen at
the Bell in Danbury. He moved his family to Essex from Montgomeryshire
Wales, in the early 1900's. He bought a farm in Danbury on his wife's behalf
in 1907, all census records record him as a farmer. On paper work I have of
the time, he is said to be a licensed Victualler at the
Green Man, Navestock
which Kellys directory confirms. *

Elizabeth Askins held the licence for the Bell Inn from 7th February 1936 until January 7th
1950. She took the licence over from Elizabeth Cave and after Jan 7th 1950
it was taken over by a Arthur John Wallis.
Elizabeth Askins neé Cleland. She was a widow whose husband had been the Licensed Victualler of the
Albert Hotel in Witham between 1911? - 28.10.1934,
Mrs Elizabeth Askins and Emily Lomer were sisters,
Emily was the licensee of the Ship, Maldon
