In the 1871 census,  the landlady was Mary PERVIN who was my great x 3 grandmother. The boarder, Charles Tammage was the widowed son in law of Mary.   *

The Black Prince in the 1881 census was being run by Henry PEARCE (retired blacksmith), with his wife Antoinette. As so often happens, their names were spelt a variety of ways. They were married as PIERCE and her name crops up as Antoinetta, Antonietta etc. She was a younger sister of my great X 3 grandma Mary Pervin who ran the pub in 1871.  *

The marriage certificate of my Grandparents Alexander Wilks to Charlotte Carter in 1908 indicates she was resident at The Black Prince and Alex was an able seaman, torpedo boat 3 Portsmouth. Her Father in law, Thomas George Carter, is recorded on the certificate as the licensed victualler at Black Prince.  ***
