E13 Plaistow
Stations - Plaistow (District), West Ham (BR North London/District).
The World Guide to Beer locates Plaistow in the depths of rural Sussex, but unfortunately the reality is a little different and it actually lies south of Stratford, athwart the Barking Road and Northern Outfall Sewer (along which you can cycle). Part of the borough of West Ham, it lacks any centre since all the civic facilities are at Stratford. In the 1870s it was noted for potato fields and sheep farming, but now is partly industrial but mainly covered by rows of Victorian terraces, perhaps a little more complete than in other parts of East London and complemented by a reasonable range of pubs with some breaks from the Big Four. Entertainment is most likely to be found in those along the Barking Road.
