The Fireman in the 1871 census and in 1878; The Duchess Of Devonshire by 1881, in Lavender road was at the corner of Knox road.  The pub, the entire block and another pub, the Shakespeare at 150 Meyrick road (in the parallel street), were destroyed during WW2. *
