In the 1891 census, William James Whitlock is at the King Johns Head, 138 Southwark street; and by the 1901 census, he is listed as a public house manager at 1 Cambridge place, Station road, Woolwich - this is probably the Cambridge. In 1904 at the baptism of his son, Alfred, he is at the Sheer Hulk, Church street, this is again his brother in laws pub.
