You have my Ancestor Alfred Brandon down as publican from 1868 to after 1874. The family were major market gardeners in Rotherhithe and after the
settlement of a long lasting family dispute in 1860, his father Richard would have come into a lot of property. Alfred married Sarah Ann Wilson [nee Witherden] in 1868, and I suspect the father gave him money to leave the market garden business and set up in the pub. He was there in the 1871 Census but must not have made a success of it, as by 1881 was calling himself a 'Publican out of Business' which is what he did for the rest of his life. He died in 1922 leaving £7742 which is £164, 215 today; so he didn't struggle. *

My grandfather's sister Mary Ann Rebecca Budge was the landlady from 1934 to 1944, her maiden name was Ilines. I am enclosing a photo of her and her husband Mr Budge for you to add to your information if you would like to. ***
My father used to talk about her running The Peacock, that's how I know about it, and I did meet her once, in 1954. She must have been born around 1882 in Homerton, as my grandfather was born in 1880, their parents had a bike shop opposite Hackney hospital in those days. ***

In 1911, at Edmonton, a Charles French and Mary French are manager and manageress of the Railway Tavern, 510 Fore street, Edmonton Also listed are Florrie Jackson, niece aged 17, and Dorrie Proctor, a servant aged 19.
On the 30th June, 1931 there is a marriage between William David Budge, 51, assistant relieving officer of 50 Halidon street, Homerton and Mary Ann Rebecca French, widow, aged 55, of 7 High street, Homerton.
