Have you ever run a Pub? You can add your pub history to the UK pub history site. You can contact the pub history site via my email : Kevan. There are over 10,500 images on the site and more than 47,000 pages of pub history - these numbers increase every day as I add new pub history research. The pub history site has now been evolving for more than ten years, with a significant number of additional pub history researchers who regularly update the site with historical detail and imagery, old and new.

This is a local search engine of the UK Pub history site. You can search by surname, street address, or public house name. The search engine updates weekly. If you are looking for a specific pub history listing, some of these can only be found in the sitemap - see the navigation bar on the left.

Rose And Crown, 13 Mare Street, Hackney E8

Hackney Index

There was a pub in Hackney village in 1636 called the Rose, which was probably the predecessor of this pub. At 7 Anns Terrace, Cambridge Heath in 1861 census.  **

If there was a building prior to 1830 on this site it must be linked to a different location entirely. There were recent Elizabethan remains found close to the site which would suggest either a grand house or more likely shops on the Mare Street road and it is possible a pub / coaching inn could have existed on site but the records are not there to support this. In addition the building was badly damaged if not destroyed in the 1870s and sold at auction after extensive renovation and rebuilding in around 1886.The pub was shut in 1998 by Whitbread due to lack of trade, it was subsequently squatted and treated very badly and was in a terrible state of repair when we bought it and began repairs. A cursory glance at the building beyond the need for new paint on the property would show it is occupied. ***

The building itself is dated back to 1830 and was only ever owned by the Whitbread brewery. It has an interesting history in recent times and was once host to a jazz club where Ronnie Scott used to play. In more recent times it fell into a rather poor state of repair and notoriety losing reputation and clientele. A name change to The Cambridge failed to halt the decline and subsequent closure. ***

Here is my site for accessible transport in London, aka nogobritain.com; It is not bad, but help me to make it better.

Please support a campaign for Bangladesh, which will add a few pence to a piece of clothing emailing these companies who wish to see people dieing without decent rights, and also stop shopping in  these places - thank you. E.g. Debenhams, Gap and ASDA (Walmart). I will remove the companies names when they sign up to a fair deal for the workers in Bangladesh
