Castle Tavern, 17 Great Chapel Street, St Margaret, Westminster

Westminster St Margaret index

Stood on the corner of Little Chapel Street. The house was demolished for the construction of St Ermin’s Mansions in 1889. The mansions were converted into the St Ermin’s Hotel around 1897.
[I cannot explain how the Post Office Directory finds Mrs Sophia Smith as licensee of this pub in 1891. All the references give the date of opening of St Ermin’s Mansions as 1889, and there is no trace of Nos 8-17 Great Chapel Street in the 1891 Census.] *
