Tottenham and Edmonton Weekly Herald 22 March 1907
Enfield and Public Houses - Six Licenses referred.
The adjourned applications for renewal were in respect of the Pike and Anchor, Ponders End ; Cricketers Arms, Chase Side ; The Harrow, Turkey street; The Prince of Wales, Parsonage lane ; The Sultan beerhouse, New road, Ponders End ; The Swan, Ponders End, and The Woodman, Baker street.
The Sultan beerhouse, New road, Ponders End - the licensee was Thomas Warner, who was a half-yearly tenant; the brewers were Messrs Taylor and Walker, and the rateable value of the house was £30. Within the 440 yards radius there were two full licensees, four beerhouses and one off. The trade at this house had been about the same for many years.
Inspector Pratt stated that the house was used by the working class. The licensee went into the premises in 1893. The house had never been closed, and there had been no convictions or complaint.
The licensee stated that he had done good trade since he had been in the house and he had never had trouble with his customers. The Bench however referred the renewal of the license.
