A large school, with residence, has since been added. The village is well supplied with water, brought two years ago, by public subscription, the distance of a mile. The population in 1861 was 895. There are chapels for the Baptists and Primitive Methodists.
Lyneham is a hamlet in this parish, l 1/2 mile N. of Shipton. A new school, licensed for Divine worship, has lately been built by J. H. Langstone, Esq., M.p., in which service is held on Sunday evenings; the curate of Milton attends. The population is 237 souls.
