Coffee House Tavern, 3 Terminus Road, Littlehampton

Littlehampton pub history index

Possibly also called Ferry Coffee Tavern. *
The use of Tavern would suggest that it was a Public House or similar establishment selling alcoholic drinks but equally it could have been a Coffee Shop/Café type establishment. It was located immediately next to the Locomotive but was run by different people. It appears to have been in existence for just a few years. *

1901 / Sarah Cooper / Wife / 43 / Nantley Scouse, Hants / Census

1904 /… /… / Bennett’s Directory – no manager listed and called Ferry Coffee Tavern *

John Cooper is listed as living at 3 Terminus Road, the same address as Rebecca Prince did in the 1891 census, and is still at the address in 1911. His occupation appears to be the same in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses and this calls into question the entry in the Bennett’s Directory above. No entry for a Ferry Coffee Tavern was found elsewhere in either census but there appears to be 19 properties missing in the 1901 Census that were listed in 1891. The name seems to suggest that it was near the Ferry which would put it in the locality of the Arun View and Steam Packet Inns.*
