The earliest deed is for a lease for 1000 years, dated 1700, between Rye Corporation and Edward Dodge of Ebony (Kt) carpenter of land on which he subsequently built a dwelling and stables.

In 1760 the remaining portion of the lease was assigned to Dr Thomas Frewen of Rye and his wife Philadelphia, who immediately assigned it again (AMS5681/23/2) to John Stonham of Beckley, yeoman

In Aug 1782, Henry Stonham of Brede, yeoman (one of John's sons) sold rights in Rye Ferry/Strand Ferry, which presumably included the property, to Jeremiah Curteis of Rye, gent. John Stonham, the other son, did the same in Jan 1801

In 1832, as executor for Jeremiah Curteis, Edward Jeremiah Curteis of Windmill Hill, Wartling sold the tenement, (now in three dwellings) together with a further four dwellings built by James Smith where the stables had formerly been, to James Smith of Rye gent

By his will the property passed to his son Jeremiah who assigned it in 1843 to Richard Curteis Pomfret of Rye, Esq and others.

In June 1866, they sold the 4 cottages, plus the 'Ferry Boat Inn' (for the first time so called) and adjoining cottage for £500 to representatives of the East Guldeford Brewery.
