My Great, Great Grandmother was Lydia Whitefield Mills and her husband was Samuel Vine. Samuel's Dad was also Samuel and he was the landlord at the Red Lion in 1850, as per Kelly's. *

The licence of the Red Lion Inn Clovelly was transferred from Mr. Vine to his son

Samuel Vine Jr died at sea in 1876 and shortly after, Lydia became the landlady of the Red Lion Clovelly Kelly's states from 1878 until 1902. Lydia died in 1932. *

North Devon Gazette 05 March 1895
A fire broke out in a bedroom at the back of the Red Lion Inn Clovelly, which forms part of the hotel. A fire lit to air bedding was lit by Mrs Vine, but several Clovelly fishermen were soon on the scene.

Lydia's daughter was also Lydia and she was married to Charles Hugh Burnard (my great grandfather) and their son Jack (my Grandfather) was born in the Red Lion in February 1899. *
