Year/Publican or other Resident/Relationship to Head and or Occupation/Age/Where Born/Source.

I am related to the Pearsons through Lydia and her son Charles, the father of my maternal Great Grand Parent, Edmund. Charles is landlord of the Black Lion, Althorne by 1867.
I have the family tree along the Charles branch. Richard is a mystery, married Lydia as a widower but we have not been able to track Richards origins or of his first wife(s). *

It appears to be have been started between 1821/23 by James Wright and run by his widow after his death around 1827.
Richard Pearson takes over in 1836 but dies in February 1837. His widow Lydia Pearson runs the pub until 1871, no date of death has been established. She is succeeded by Mary, the widow of her son John Pearson.
By 1886 the pub has passed into the hands of Alfred Pond. *

I am related to the Pearsons, landlords/ladies of the Cock, Tillingham.
A marriage certificate of 1845 for Mary (nee Walford) and John Pearson states the bridegroom's father Richard as being 'Landlord.' We assume this was of The Cock with his wife Lydia, she subsequently took over (with her son John) on the death of Richard.
I understand, from the present owners, that the regulars used to heckle the Temperance church goers on their way to the parish church next door!
