February 1913/Veteran Landlady and historic Inn: The death of Mrs Sarah Ann Haylock Vause, of the Old Spotted Dog, Upton, occurred on Monday night. The deceased was the widow of James Vause, and was 76 years of age. Her association with the Old Spotted Dog lasted for more than half a century. She came there to reside with her husband after her marriage on the 29th November 1859, and the whole of her married life and widowhood has been spent in that historic old hotel. It is estimated that the house has been in the Vause family for about 150 years. Throughout that period the various generations of the family have striven to retain the old fashioned character of the building. The City coat of arms still ornaments the broad mantel piece which the Merry Monarch and his courtiers warmed their hands and feet during the plague in the seventeenth century/Chelmsford Chronicle

What I am now attempting to achieve is the coverage of an earlier London
street directory in 1832. This is unique, plus
images of the 1842 Robsons directory which confirm earlier entries and also
carry much more trade detail about a premises or person. Here is the index of streets in 1832, many with
1842 imagery added.
And next is the complete 1940 London street directory - this will take some months to complete, so bear with me!
