James Burren senior (1805 - 1868), was my 3 × great grandfather; he was at the Blakeneys Head by at least 1843***

James Burren was described as licensed victualler at the Five Bells, St Margarets Bank, at the baptism of his daughter Philadelphia on 16 November 1838 – source transcript of parish register for St Margaret’s church ***

I have not yet found James Burren in the 1841 census and don’t know when he moved to Smithfield [nor why, since St Margaret’s Bank seems to have been a well-off area with households of shipwrights, mariners, architects, carpenters, etc, and Smithfield was home to one of the foulest markets in the country – maybe he decided he was a wannabe Wetherspoon’s bar manager :-) ], but I do know he was at St Bartholomew the Great by August 1843 when children Rhoda born 1840 and James born 1843 were baptized ***

The 1841 census lists George Jeffrey and his family at the Five Bells,  St Margarets Bank. Levi Yard  was licensee of the Full Moon beerhouse in Five Bells Lane.
I have references for Jeffreys from 1841 up to 1847 and then his widow Hannah Jeffrey in 1849; whilst Levi Yard was at the Full Moon from around 1841 up to at least 1858. **
