American Stores, 53, 54 & 55 Fenchurch Street, All Hallows Staining, City of London

All Hallows Staining pub history index

The American Stores was formerly named the Horseshoe and Magpie (at 55 Fenchurch Street), adjacent to the King's Head at 53 & 54 Fenchurch Street (which by 1882 is renamed as the London Tavern). The American Stores is not mentioned separately after the 1910 Directory, and it appears to merge with the London Tavern into a single pub by 1915, with its address listed that year as 53, 54 & 55 Fenchurch Street. *

A listing of historical London public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in All Hallows, Staining parish, City of London. What I am now attempting to achieve is the coverage of an earlier London street directory in 1832. This is unique, plus images of the 1842 Robsons directory which confirm earlier entries and also carry much more trade detail about a premises or person. Here is the index of streets in 1832, many with 1842 imagery added.
And next is the complete 1940 London street directory - this will take some months to complete, so bear with me!
