In 1864, a Thomas Briggs was assaulted and pushed out of a train between Fenchurch Street and Hackney, and he fell onto the tracks behind the Mitford Castle pub on what is now Cadogan terrace, by the Wick Lane canal bridge. *+
He was spotted by railway workers and carried down to the Mitford Castle, and tended by (among others) the landlord James Hudson, so the pub was 'open' by that date (9th July 1864) and remained so. It is now the 'Top 'o The Morning' as you say, and has a plaque to the murder (as Briggs died shortly afterwards) on the front wall of the pub - clearly discernible on Google Earth, for instance. (Kate Colquhoun's book "Mr Briggs' Hat - Britain's First Railway Murder") *+
