The Heber Arms, now converted into flats - It would appear that it was built 1867/68 by William Henry Hammer, a New Cross based builder who made two unsuccessful licensing applications in 1868 & 1869. It was then presumably run as a beer house until Walter Wright's successful application in 1878 - so far, I have not found any census info for 1871. **

Licence refused � Heber Arms, Heber Street, Landcroft Road, East Dulwich **
1869 - Morning Advertiser 1/04/1869: Licences � William Henry Hammer, Heber
Arms, Heber Street, Lancroft Road, East Dulwich, opposed by the landlord of
the Plough. Licence refused. **
1878 - South London Press 16 March 1878: Walter Wright applied for a
victualler�s licence for the Heber Arms, Heber Road, East Dulwich. Applicant
had paid �1580 for the freehold and fittings, and Mr Lilley, who appeared in
support, contended that this fact certified to the adaptability of the
premises for the business which the applicant sought to obtain by this
licence. The house had had a licence seven years ago, which had been held
for a number of years: but two years since, owing to a dispute, and some
litigations which occurred at the time, it had fallen through. Under these
circumstances he hoped the bench would see fit to grant the applicant�s
request. There was no opposition. **
