London historical street directory and pub history

Most of the properties on my site are now probably listed on rightmove as residential property rather than pubs, perhaps they would like to sponsor this site?

Railway Tavern, 339 Mare Street, Hackney E8

Hackney pub history Index

This pub closed in 2009 and has been converted to a betting shop. **

This pub was established as the Eight Bells in 1665 and later had the address 347 Mare Street. It was demolished in 1880 when the road junction and railway crossing was redeveloped and a replacement pub was built at 339 Mare Street, with the new name Railway Tavern.
It was again rebuilt in 1955 following wartime bomb damage. **

A listing of historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Hackney, Middlesex - now in East London. The Hackney, East London listing uses information from census, Trade Directories and History to add licensees, bar staff, Lodgers and Visitors.
