Demolition of Effra Hall Brixton - On Monday, a sale of furniture and interior of the famous old red brick mansion known as Effra Hall, near Brixton Church, took place by auction.
The old house, which has stood for some centuries, and is one of the largest in the locality, is doomed for demolition.
It is recorded in history that royal personages have occasionally resided on this estate. The building has of late years been used as a private lunatic asylum for females, and is now to be pulled down for conversion into a building site.
New roads are to be made, and other improvements proceeded with forthwith.
