Dame Colet Cottage, 10 Duckett Street, Mile End

Mile End Pubs history

It is not named on any directories or census returns I've looked at, but is clearly named on the 1947 Ordnance Survey map. * Duckett street is earlier named Edward street up until about 1876, but this property is not listed in 1877 and there are no matching beer retailers listed in Edward street prior to this.

A listing of historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Bethnal Green, Middlesex - now in East London. The Bethnal Green, East London listing uses information from census, Trade Directories and History to add licensees, bar staff, Lodgers and Visitors.

The following entries are in this format:

Year/Publican or other Resident/Relationship to Head and or Occupation/Age/Where Born/Source.

It would appear that Thomas Radford owned The Horn of Plenty; plus 8 & 10 Duckett Street as listed in the Property ownership record of electors in 1905 albeit as mentioned earlier Thomas died in 1882! ***
The reason I have mentioned this is because I have a copy of a solicitors letter dated 1914 in respect of inheritance from Adah’s estate, this letter mentions “The Black Horse and other premises Duckett Street, Stepney”. As I have not found any mention of a pub called The Black Horse in Duckett Street, maybe this was number 10?
