It appears that one side of New Road is in Whitechapel & other side in Mile End, By 1844 it was operating as a brewhouse. The Duke of Gloucester, Gloucester Terrace in 1866 license transfer.  Rebuilt in its present form in 1887, it was closed by 1923 and now functions as a clothes shop **
