Jesse Hill and family are listed in a number of pubs around London as in the following detail.
Three or four generations of the Hills family are running London pubs.
Jesse Hill was at the Earl of Chatham, 45 Hughes Fields, Deptford from 1825 or 6 until 1846
He was at the Anchor and Hope Tavern at 48 Jamaica Street, Mile End Old Town from 1846 -1860
Unless my info is wrong Jesse Hill at the Earl of Chatham must have been two people, father and son coz I have the younger Jesse born in 1811 - a bit young to be running it in 1826.
His son George Hill was publican at :
1858 York Street, Stepney (Son's baptism certificate)
1861 Anchor and Hope Tavern Jamaica Street
1862 Number 7, Newgate Street (Son's baptism certificate) ()
From July 1863 to March 1865, Jesse Hill is at the Prince Alfred, 46 Eleanor Road, London Fields, Hackney as noted in license transfers
1866 Two Beehives, Dunstan Street from Jan 66 - Jan 67
(Daughter's Baptism form)
1867 Grove Road, Mile End, possibly at the Prince of Prussia.
The other two pubs in Grove Road are spoken for. (Son's baptism form ) ()
1869 in Peckham Rye - Vivian Hotel is a possibility (Daughter's Baptism form) ()
1871 Queens Arms, in Plumstead and until May in 1872.
The Woolwich Gazette of 18 January 1873 reports the license transfer of a beer license from Charles Pay to George Hill at the Firemans Arms, in Deptford
1875 98 Gifford Street, Caledonian Road (Son's baptism certificate) ()
In 1875 and 1876 there is a George Hill at the Comus, 9 Upper Bemerton Street, Islington.
In August 1877, a transfer of licenses from George Hill to Mary Ann Stock occurs at theAlexandra, Victoria Park road, Hackney
In 1878 and 1879 there is a George Hill at the Trafalgar, 45 Southgate Road, Hackney N1 until his license transfer in March 1879
1881 he was at The Lord Palmerston, 60 Hampstead Road, St Pancras
His children Jesse and Emily Hill were joint managers of the North London Railway Hotel, 331 High St Kilburn in 1901 ()
Their brother Frank E Hill was at the Globe Hotel, 22 York Place , Marylebone in 1901 ()
and at the Skiddaw Hotel, 46 Chippenham road , Paddington W9 in 1911
Their cousin, my great great uncle, George Weaver was publican at The Green Man in Shepreth, Cambs from 1888 until at least 1892
There are a couple of possible reasons for George's continual moving. His brother had a firm JJ Hill, later JJ Hill and Weaver
(My ggrandad followed by my grandad who sold the firm in the 1950s). They were pub valuers/auctioneers.
I imagine they may have been buying and selling with George running them between purchase and sale.
Or he may have made a living as a locum without the family firm being involved.
