The Congleton Arms apparently closed in the 1970's; probably to be replaced by housing in the local area. It is not known where the name Congleton Arms, came from, but maybe an early licensee was from Congleton, in Cheshire. The earliest recorded licensee appears to be John George Burrell, from 1862, and the pub is not listed in 1858, although Maxey road does exist then.

I lived in the Congleton Arms, Maxey Road Plumstead with my parents from
around 1961 till 1968. His name was Arthur Thomas Hopkins and he was a
tenant, Courage were the brewers who owned the pub. My brother was born on
the premises in October 1963. I attach a photo inside the pub probably taken
in about 1966, that’s me with the sword ! My parents and grandfather are in
the picture.
It had a large room upstairs which was used by a local Masonic lodge. I
would love to have a picture of the outside of the pub if anyone can assist.
Any idea why it’s called the Congleton? Any info greatly appreciated. *
