George IV, 235 Old Street, Shoreditch EC1

At 9 Georges Place, Old Street Road in 1869 & earlier, This pub is now demolished. In 1921 census at 201 Old Street. ** Ex-Watney, Combe, Reid and rebuilt in post-World War II estate style at what is now 235 Old Street with the alternative address of 1 Vince Street. Known later as Murphys Tavern, Gluepot, and The Nelsons Retreat; renamed Canvas Bar in 2014. * The name is often commonly given as George the Fourth. *** Closed down again in 2017 and currently awaiting a new chapter in its life. *
