The Old Holy Well in Shoreditch was being run by Herbert Ernest Kingsman in 1911 (census), he left and fought in the war but came back to run it again afterwards. Family lore has it that his wife Louisa (nee Baker) ran it while he was away fighting, but I have no evidence to confirm this. She died there in 1918 (Probate records). Herbert then married Louisa's sister Maud and again family lore has it that they ran the pub for some time afterwards. I presume that they were there as tenants of E J Rose & Co. *
