The pub was present by 1747, and it was rebuilt in its present form in 1939 then re-named Hennessy's in 2003. ** The old Roman London Wall runs through the beer cellar and has been preserved behind a large perspex panel. It reverted back to the name, the Three Tuns. ***

Harlequin Steam Packet - Excursion for Pleasure to Southend, and land for three hours to view pier, &c and back before dark - Captain Corbin and Mr Poole (Steward), having been solicited by many families and Friends to make this select excursion, have fixed the same for Thursday, next, September 1. Police Intelligence:
Immoderate use of the cane - the Rev Mr May the head-master of the Brewers Company School, of Tower hill, appeared before the Lord Mayor to answer a charge against him of unlawfully assaulted and beaten John Henry Grossmith, one of the schoolboys and son of Mr Grossmith, of the Three Tuns Inn, Jewry street, Aldgate. The lad deposed to having received a severe caning from the master which rendered it necessary for the parents to call in medical attendance. The cane was produced in court, and the Lord Mayor said he did not consider it a fit instrument for the punishment of a lad of the age of ten and a half years.
