Bull Inn, Strand & Maiden lane WC2

St Martins pub history index

The Bull Inn was visited by Pepys where he apparently met Nell Gwynne in 1667, a prostitute who was a mistress of King Charles. she was also the founder of Chelsea Hospital and mother of the first Duke of St Albans, apparently (her blue plaque suggests this is true). Bull Inn court exists for ever, and there was a Bull inn here until about 1670. Bull Inn court always exists between the Strand and Maiden lane, often being described as the Bull Inn court, Maiden lane.
