Islington Gazette - 15 July 1903:
Marked Money - Henry Gatfield, 44, a potman, was charged on remand at Clerkenwell Police court yesterday, with stealing from the till inside the "Golden Lion" public house, Britannia street, Clerkenwell, a sixpenny piece, the money of Phineas Lewis.
Evidence was given that a marked sixpence was passed over the bar of the house to the prisoner, and afterwards found upon his person, along with a number of other unmarked coins.
Mr d'Eyncourt sent Gatfield to gaol for three months.
