RENDLESHAM is a parish and village, in Plomesgate union, Woodbridge county court district, Loes hundred and rural deanery, archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, East Suffolk, 3 miles south-west from Wickham Market, and 4 � north-east from Woodbridge. The church of St. Gregory is a small old building, with a tower, and contains some fine monuments to the late Lords Rendlesham and their families. The register commences in 1681. The living is a rectory, annual value �420, with residence, in the gift of the Crown, and held by the Rev. Lord Thomas Hay, M.A. There is a Free school for about 150 children, supported by Lord Rendlesham, in which the children of this parish are educated. Rendlesham Hall was destroyed some years since by fire, but has been rebuilt on a smaller scale. The other seat is that of the Rev. Lord Thomas Hay. Lord Rendlesham is lord of the manor. The population in 1861 was 350; the area is 2,020 acres. Parish Clerk, Robert Jackaman.
