The February 1892 Petty sessions lists the Vine, London street. Harry Unwin is the current licensee; Next door to Jolly Waggoner, beerhouse

My Great Grandfather, Thomas James Lewis, ran The Vine Inn in 1901. He married an Annie Lily Poole (formerly Giles) and a previous landlord was Thomas Poole, so I have been trying to make a connection. In 1891 (Census) The Vine Inn was being run by Elizabeth Poole (not Thomas) as she was a widow by then. Thomas James Lewis’s brother, William John Lewis was the Landlord of the White Hart, Ripley in 1891; and the Royal Albion, Hastings in 1901.  ***

Around this time the Lewis family started building a chain of pubs; by 1901, three of the five siblings were licensed victuallers. The third was Mary Elizabeth Attfield ( maiden name Lewis) Who ran the Jericho House, 57 Walton Street, Oxford. Caroline Lewis who was the mother of William, Thomas and Mary was also living with Mary in 1901. ***
