I'm really interested in the above named public house, as my grandparents ran this pub in the 1950's , 1960's and 1970's. I spent many happy years with my siblings in Brighton, my grandfather died in approx 1970, and in those days a woman alone could not hold a licence on her own, from what I remember, so my grandmother had to give up her beloved pub.
Their names were Bill and Dorothy Haylock, and my grandmothers niece ran the pub in Madeira Place The St James's, her name was Jean Ward but I cannot remember her husband's name.
In saying that my grandmother had a few sisters in the Brighton area, so I know I have second cousins, but have no clue on names or even if they are in the area still. I do visit Brighton, which I did last week, but the Aqarium Inn was shut, is this long term do you know ? I can remember that the Southdown Coach station was in Steine Street, as I remember walking through to the shops through there, and I can remember seeing the Palace Pier from the window, before they built the block of flats in front of it. *
