My great grandfather, Samuel ALLEN was a publican and was in various pubs in the area at different times. He was resident at the WHITE SWAN 184 Moseley Street, Aston Birmingham in 1900. I know that this area was called Deritend at the time, a historical area of Birmingham first mentioned in 1276. *

On 11th April 1897, George Alfred Reece Allen is baptised to Samuel Allen, licensed victualler in Moseley street and Emma Ann Stockdale Allen; at Deritend St John Baptist. He was born on the 20th February, 1897.

From the 1901 census, I can give you the following information to add to your documents : *
Resident at 184 Moseley Street in 1901 -
Samuel ALLEN head of family, aged 34 born in Brades village, Worcestershire in 1867
Emma ALLEN (née SHACKLETON DAVIS), wife, aged 29 born in Towcester, Northamptonshire in 1871
Thomas Henry ALLEN, son, aged 6 born in Oldbury, Worcestershire in 1894 - (my grandfather who lived to be over 100 years old)
George Alfred Reece ALLEN, son aged 4 born in Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1897
Martha ADAMS, general servant (domestic), aged 17, born in Oldbury Worcestershire

I know that the WHITE SWAN in Moseley Street has been knocked down and I have been desperately trying to find an old photo of it.
