My Great Great Great Grandfather was Frederick Piears and the 1861 census shows him as “Licensed Victualler, The Ship, 16 Tottenham Place, which was also recorded as his place of residence (15-17 Tottenham Place). He is listed on the above page as “Frederick Pleare” in November 1862, so it looks like this was either misread or misspelled. **
Both the pub and Tottenham Place no longer exist. It looks like the pub may have ceased trading when Maple and Co (a large British furniture and upholstery manufacturer) bought up all the surrounding land and properties to create 5 acres of showrooms – this was completed by 1889 and the last licensee on your site is 1869, so this seems to tie in. **
